The man who folds your laundry.
“People are surprised when a man comes to fold their laundry. Then they rebook.”
For eight years, Ramesh worked in hotel housekeeping in Mysuru, mastering the art of fabric care, steam pressing, and kitchen prep. When he relocated to Bengaluru, he sought a role with daytime hours that would allow him to spend evenings with his eight-year-old son.
Domestic help in India has traditionally been female-dominated, and male workers were often met with suspicion. 'On my first few visits, customers were surprised to see a man in a Mint polo holding a cleaning caddy,' Ramesh laughs. 'Then they watched me fold twenty shirts into crisp department-store stacks in fifteen minutes.'
Today, Ramesh has a loyal customer base across Bellandur tech apartments. His favourite part of the job is teaching his son life skills on Sundays. 'I tell him that keeping a home clean is not women's work or men's work—it is professional work.'
